I Have a Dream about….

I Have a Dream about….

Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream.

There are so many different types of dreams, examples are; Day dreams and Nightmares. But when Martin Luther King said “I have a dream” he was not refering to these types of dreams. He was talking about a future life very different to the life he was in at that moment he was making the statement. A life in America that would be without racism.  Some interesting questions are why do we dream? What exactly do we dream about? Do dreams come true? How do we or should we follow our dreams? How do we make our dreams come true?

Our Dreams

Dreams, what are they?

When you sleep, some kind of story or movie plays itself out. We wake up and remember it, many times we don’t remember.         I’m not talking about those type of dreams in this post. I’m refering to our imaginations. Those pictures that play in our head about what we would rather be, what we want to become, where we see ourselves 5 or 10 years down the line, what we want to develope ourselves into.

I had a dream as a young lady, I’ll tell you all about it in this post.

What next

Knowing your dream

When my children were in the primary school. I would sit them down from time to time and ask them what they want to be when they grow up. I also directed their attention to what they liked doing and explained to them that their interest could be developed into a career. They were not quite clear on what they wanted, they started with things like “I want to be a driver” but with time they started coming up with some solid ideas.

My first daughter was intrested in painting and colouring pictures since she was two years old. As she grew up she started saying “I want to paint houses. Today she is an architectural designer and a graphic designer!

When I was in my early twenties I had a dream to keep in shape through the years and still be in shape as a grown up lady.

Set Goals

Dreams into goals

Vincent Van Gogh said “I dream of a painting and then I paint my dream” Your dream is or should be what you would like to be sometime in the future. Where you see you self in the near and far future. The greatest you would like to develop yourself into. And what exactly would that be? Getting a college degree? Getting married? Hitting a million dollar income? Or anything you imagine for yourself. Now, the first step to achieving your dream is to set goals. 10 year goals, 5 year goals yearly goals, monthly goals weekly goals and daily goals.

My goal was to be in shape in my fifties and beyond.

Make Plans

Goals into plans

Make plans with the aim of achieving your goals. Plans are breaking our big goal down to little goals. Nobody plans to fail but so many people fail to plan. To achieve your dream you need a plan. It’s like going on a road trip, you need a map that has the road route on it. Your plan would be to follow the map, satellite navigation or gps we have these days to your final destination. If you stop following the navigator you will definitely get lost. This would lead to a delay in getting to your destination or not getting to your destination at all. There is something that can help you with the plan of achieving your dreams. It’s called wealthy Affiliate. I highly recommend it.

At wealthy Affiliate, they will train you to have a mindset of achieving your goals, there is an easy to follow training if you have no experience at all and more advanced training for the experienced. There is an excellent support system to help and a massive community always ready to answer your questions. Better still you can even join wealthy Affiliate for free for the first 7 days!

My plans were to exercise daily and eat the right healthy food.

Realising our dreams

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney (Co-Founder, Disney)

The very first thing to do is to have the right mindset. Tell yourself “I am going to fulfill my dream”! Be determined. Be focused! Life is going to throw so many things at you that would want to stall you, distract you or stop you all together. You must have an unshakable determination to make this happen. Put your plans into action by working on your daily goals. You must be unshakable. You must be consistent, do not let a day go by without achieving the goals you’ve set out for that day. Do a little bit at a time. What’s most important is that you don’t stop! Keep at it, whatever it is for example if you want to loose weight and stay fit, you cannot afford to miss your daily exercise. After a while you will notice the weight dropping off, then the muscles firming up. Even at this stage you need to keep at the Diet and exerciseing otherwise you will be back to where you started. The same process goes for growing a business, writing a book or whatever your dream is.

Through the years I did aerobics and when my children came along we did it together.

I’m glad to hear that you are in your 50s and in good shape. Good for you! People such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Vincent Van Gogh represent dreams and what can be accomplished from dreaming. For the most part, MLK’s dreams have proven true, as equality has become better and better over time, though nothing is perfect. Van Gogh created some of the most dreamy impressionism out there and I always am impressed especially when I get the chance to see one of his paintings in person. You made a great reference to Wealthy Affiliate as it is certainly one of those places where your dreams can come to fruition. Keep up the good work with your fitness and I’m looking forward to reading more!

I can make a parallel to my current job. Our principles are to turn customer’s intents into solutions, so when we can anticipate a customer’s desire we can set the goals, pursue them and deliver the product in the right time. Now, if I set goals to my own life, and I pursue them, I might not see the benefit during struggling times, also when my goal is not reached within a month and I don’t get my paycheck in the end, but I’ll truly know that I’ve reached the end when I see the dream becoming true.

Philosophies aside, we need to set a plan and define checkpoints, to track if where we are today is where we were supposed to be.

I have always found inspiration in the quote, “if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”. Paying attention to dreams is key to living a happy life, and finding actionable ways to achieve the goals of your dreams offers the best chance of realizing them.

Setting goals (big and small) is the foundation of planning and reaching the things of your dreams. These are some great reminders and tips about how to focus your energy towards the things that you want most in life.

This is a very good article, it speaks the Truth from nature. Our dreams really speak a lot about what we love to be and what we can be, but we have to do all we can to pursue it cos it won’t manifest it self.
Haven read your article I get to know that our dreams are in our hands as what we do matters

This is a very well done post about dream and turning them in to realities by setting goals and making plans. This is just the type of message I could use today. I needed brought back to the “why” am I doing all of this stuff. The reason is because I have a dream. You are correct when you say Wealthy Affiliate can help you achieve your dreams. Depending on the dream of course. Thank you!

Having a dream can be like to having a vision. Without the right mindset your dreams will remain dreams!

I have a dream of reaching out to the young ones and help them become a better person, right now it is not looking like it but I am working towards it,lots and tons of distractions all around but I am not discouraged because I believe that someday it will manifest, all it takes is time! This is what having the right mindset can do for you.

Thanks alot for this article,a lot of people can learn from it.

Yes, goals without a due date, still remains just a dream. I think we are all given our own dreams, and I also believe that the Universe is putting different ideas into different people’s mind, because each of us has unique skills and unique dreams. Those ideas are not put into our heads, just by accident.

Your article triggers a lot of thoughts for the reader.

I Have A Dream made me both hopeful and sad. Sad at missed opportunities as a parent.  Fortunately, the kids were strong dreamers and achievers. This article should be included in a parenting guide about helping children take stock of their dreams.  Then all the points along our lives knowing your dream and working toward that dream bring such happiness and satisfaction. This is what I was doing but just didn’t examine the moves along the way.  I could have saved myself some problems and detours if I had paid attention.

Dreaming and knowing how to use those dreams and follow them is a skill not everyone has, and articles like this one make me hopeful that others, like me, can continue to learn to use this special thing called Dreams to live a happy and productive life.   Sami

I dream about living the laptop lifestyle, which I’m actually pretty close to doing full-time. I’ve always said this COVID-19 experience was a blessing in disguise for me since it basically snuffed me out of my “non-essential” job but at the same time, it forced me to come up with a solution to make money.

While my affiliate marketing blogs are running, one of which has generated 2,500 search engine clicks this month, I needed to have more than just them, so turning to freelance writing helped immensely in the month of April – as did Draft Kings hitting the stock market.

My ultimate goal by the time I hit 30 is to be so financially free that returning to Corporate America under any circumstance isn’t an option, and to be able to travel far and wide while continuing to live my laptop lifestyle.

      Thanks for coming by Todd,

I wish you the very best with your laptop lifestyle.

This hit home with me. I remember when I was a child. When somebody asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I gave different answers. Truth is, none of them became true.

I think our dreams motivate us to change, but it’s not always easy. As you said, we need a plan. We have to take action of some kind. We can’t expect everything to fall from Heaven.

Wealthy Affiliate is a good platform with many useful resources. It’s not easy, but you will learn a lot and meet a lot of people willing to help you along the way.

Thanks for sharing. Have an awesome day.

I think as we grow up, we all have dreams. No matter what they are or what they portray, we always had something in our minds to look forwards to. We usually aim for things like a career, a nice home, a luxurious car, a family, etc, but for me, my dream was for someone to know my struggles while I was growing up. Nobody knows what a child goes through in an abusive household and I just wanted someone to see throughout the smiles. Sadly, that never – completely – happen. Now that I’m in my middle twenties I don’t have much dreams to look forwards to. I just wait and wish to make it through the next day. For me, that’s everything. Dreams come in different shape and sizes,we focus too much on the goal but never the journey and I think we need to give ourselves more credit for the things we have accomplished.

      So true, thanks Stephanie.

Thanks alot for this wonderful article…… This has really motivated me to do more on making my dream come true … So many people do have dreams but not all of them are ready to make that dream come through, some people focus so much on the goal and not the journey…. With articles like this people will begin to reset their mindset…. Thank you very much for this article.
